Conquering Fear

Ayurveda is about getting to know yourself. As the word Ayurveda suggests, it is about Ayus: meaning life and Veda: meaning knowledge.  Knowing how to live YOUR life.  It can also be about conquering fear: fear of the unknown, fear of responsibility and fear of living an authentic life. For some people, fear comes with expectations that can stop you in your tracks.  “You mean I have to be responsible for everything I do. What if I don’t know how?”

That fear can really be overwhelming, especially when things are not going well.  Many people that have major health challenges and are afraid of taking the responsibility of their health and well being. “What if I do it wrong? What if the medication doesn’t work? What if the doctors don’t know what is wrong with me?”

The only way to really conquer fear is knowledge.  Learning about what makes you more balanced, learning how embrace your life, learning what you are most inclined to do in situations and WHY you do some of the things you do. These are the foundational teachings of Ayurveda. But when we are afraid to look at our life, we can’t make good choices. S0 what is fear all about?

As Buck says in the video below, “Fear is about despair. About looking into the darkness and not seeing.” For some people, being asked to care for themselves and make decisions about their own health and well-being can be like looking in to a place of darkness since they have now knowledge of how make good decisions.  Ayurveda teaches us  what choices are better for us and how to maintain balance in all aspects of life.

When we look at achieving balance, many questions come to mind. “What could be causing anxiety, fear, panic attacks? What could be causing burning indigestion, constipation, bloating?” These are things that Ayurveda helps us understand. It isn’t about these topics in a general way but why YOU might be experiencing them.  What makes you anxious might be totally different than someone else. Approaching anxiety from YOUR perspective is one of the ways Ayurveda is most successful.

Ayurveda is also about making slow, calculated changes to your lifestyle. Things that you KNOW you can accomplish but doing them makes foundational differences.  Some health challenges can be of the mind or body or the spirit. Some of them can seem very serious causing you to have caution and that is warranted.  Making those slow, calculated changes can be key to achieving good health and overcoming serious issues.

Ayurveda has changed my life and my approach to just about everything. It has taught me to take a fresh, new look at why I do certain things, why I eat certain things and why I am struggling in certain aspects of my life.

Even though the video below is about training horses, it is really about life. Take a couple of minutes to watch this and ponder his message.

A question I ask in most of my consultations is “On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest, how much is fear a part of your daily life?”  Fear can look like being afraid of success, afraid of failure, afraid of making a mistake, afraid of being hurt. So many people live in fear. As Buck says, fear can seem like a huge mountain to climb.

Are you ready to climb that mountain? I can help guide you there with the help of Ayurvedic principles and other natural healing tools. Contact me to learn what this approach might bring to your life and to your healing journey.
